Profile

Marc Cecillon was a No. 8 and flanker who was capped 46 times for France, including five as captain, playing in both the 1991 and 1995 World Cups. "He was a strong player who was generous in the field. In all of his career he never had a booking, he never played dirty, he was never given a punishment like others," Serge Blanco said. He continued to play club rugby until 2003.

However, he struggled to cope with life after rugby and he turned to alcohol in between taking on low-level coaching jobs. In August 2004 he shot his wife five times after she refused to leave a party with him and was sentenced to 20 years is prison, reduced to 14 years on appeal. He was freed on parole in 2011.
