Serge Betsen's reputation as one of the most fearsome northern hemisphere back-rowers was built over many seasons as the enforcer of the French pack.
Betsen played for Biarritz for 12 seasons, making his debut for France in 1997 but cementing his position from the 2000 Six Nations onwards. His finest moment in a French shirt came in 2002, when he marked England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson out of the game and helped to secure a 20-15 win for his side.
He was less fortunate the following year, when despite scoring a try he was unable to stop England progressing to the World Cup final.
Betsen announced his retirement in January 2008, but was convinced to join Guinness Premiership side Wasps for the 2008-09 season.
