Profile

Ricky Januarie is a scrum-half for the Stormers in the Super 14 and he is also a South African international. His first franchise was the Lions and he made a try-scoring international debut in 2005 for the Springboks against Uruguay but has often been an understudy to the highly impressive Fourie Du Preez throughout his international career.

In 2007 he was part of the World Cup winning squad but he was restricted to just two pool stage appearances against Samoa and Tonga.

A year later he left the Lions to join the Stormers and in 2009 Januarie played in the first Test as a replacement against the British & Irish Lions in a tense 26-21 victory. He did not feature in the two remaining Tests as the Springboks won the series 2-1.

In November 2009, Januarie joined the Ospreys on a 3-month loan and featured for the Swansea region in the Heineken Cup. After enjoying a successful summer with the national side, where Januarie appeared on seven occasions, he was forced to sit out the Springbok's November tour to the northern hemisphere in 2010.

In 2011, he went on to feature prominantly for the Stormers in their path to the knock-out stages of Super Rugby. However, after picking up a hand injury, Januarie was forced to sit out the Super Rugby semi-final.

In June 2011, Januarie announced he would join Top 14 side Lyon for the 2011-12 season. It was an eventful month for the scrum-half who also announced his retirement from international rugby, finishing his Springboks career with 47 caps.
