1977
Laurie Knight's late try brought New Zealand a 10-9 win in the fourth and final Test of their series against Phil Bennett's Lions. The score denied the tourists a shared series and brought to an end a disappointing tour.

Scrum-half Doug Morgan scored all of the Lions' points, with a try, conversion and penalty but Knight's late try and two penalties from fullback Bevan Wilson proved too much for the tourists.

1904
The Lions played their first-ever Test on New Zealand soil, losing 9-3 in front of a 20,000 crowd in Wellington.

Two tries from fullback Dick McGregor and a penalty from wing Carbine Wallace inspired the All Blacks, who counted the legendary Dave Gallaher among their number at wing forward, to victory.

1921
The Springboks played their first-ever Test against New Zealand, losing 13-5 at Carisbrook, Dunedin.

Tries from flanker Moke Belliss and wingers John Steel and Percival Storey proved decisive for the home side, who were cheered on by a crowd of 25,000.

1949
The 'Boks went two up in their series against Fred Allen's touring All Blacks. Hannes Brewis (try and dropped goal), Tjol Lategan (try) and a penalty by Okey Geffin brought South Africa a 12-6 win at Ellis Park.

1960
In Bloemfontein, South Africa and New Zealand drew the third Test of their series (11-11) to keep the rubber balanced at one win apiece with one Test to play. Goal kicking dominated the game, Don Clarke (NZ) and Dick Lockyear (SA) each landing two penalties and converting tries (by Frank McMullen and Keith Oxlee respectively).

1938
In their last Test duel before World War Two, New Zealand defeated Australia 14-6 at the SCG to wrap up the series 3-0 and retain the Bledisloe Cup.
