Ireland have suffered another injury blow prior to their tour of New Zealand and Australia with centre Keith Earls ruled out with a groin injury.

The injury has plagued the Munster midfielder since the Six Nations and he has now been forced to join his provincial team-mate Paul O'Connell, Ulster hooker Rory Best and Leinster flanker Kevin McLaughlin in staying at home.

"Keith Earls has been ruled out of the Ireland squad for the summer tour to New Zealand and Australia," an Irish Rugby Union statement read. "Earls has been suffering from a persistent groin injury and following his participation in the training camp in Limerick this week he has been ruled out of the tour."

Connacht's Gavin Duffy, who will start at outside-centre when Ireland face the Barbarians at Thomond Park on Friday, has been added to the tour squad. Ireland will face New Zealand at Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth on June 12 before taking on the New Zealand Maori in Rotorua. Their tour concludes with a trip to Brisbane and a showdown with Robbie Deans' Wallabies on June 26.
