Scotland boss Andy Robinson has added his voice to a growing chorus praising Australia's improved scrum and forward pack.

The former England coach will lead his side into a midweek clash with Robbie Deans' Wallabies in Newcastle on June 5 and he believes that they will not be able to attack the Australian set-piece as they once would have.

Robinson's words follow Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde's praise of Wallabies hooker Stephen Moore prior to their three-Test series, which begins in Brisbane on June 9.

"There's some real quality that Australia are developing, particularly up front in the forward pack," Robinson told AAP. "That used to be an area where you could maybe target the scrum as an area of weakness and give you a foothold and England did it a couple of years ago.

"That's no longer there, that weakness, the scrum has really, really improved. The work that the front-rowers are doing now is absolute quality."

Robinson - whose side picked up an unwanted wooden spoon in the Six Nations - believes that, despite meagre preparation time, Australia will be fully focused on the task at hand. Last season they were shocked by Samoa in their first Test, before recovering to win the Tri-Nations.

"They've got things to prove as well I think I guess after our victory last time and what happened with Samoa last year," Robinson said. "The players are not going to go in dropping any concentration, they are going to be fully concentrating for this game."
