Wasps have announced that USA Eagles back Paul Emerick has signed a permanent deal with the club.

Emerick signed a short-term deal with Wasps in February to cover their injury crisis and has now penned a full-time deal with the Aviva Premiership side. Emerick will provide cover in the centres and on the wing and made four appearances for Wasps last season in the Premiership with three coming from the bench.

And in related news, England scrum-half Joe Simpson admits that he will have a battle on his hands to get into Wasps' starting XV. Simpson was injured in March and missed Wasps' final six matches which gave Nic Berry and Charlie Davies the chance to shine at half-back. Simpson is relishing the chance to start afresh this term but realises that he will have to be at his best to get back into the mix.

"Things are very promising at Wasps at the moment and we've brought in some high quality signings who are only going to help us improve," Simpson said. "I would be the first to say that Nic Berry was one of the stand-out players at the club last year so I know what a battle I have on my hands.

"That spurs me on to improve because there are aspects to his game I can hugely learn from and we get on very well. With him and Charlie Davies, who is a different more abrasive type of nine, there is a really tough pool here so you can't take anything for granted."
