Ex-Scotland international and Montauban second rower Scott Murray has expressed his pleasure over the way his side fronted-up and pushed Munster all the way.

The French side faced a baptism of fire in their first ever Heineken Cup match, against the holders Munster at a packed Thomond Park on Friday evening.

Montauban even held a slender lead in the closing stages, before Munster pivot and Heineken Cup veteran Ronan O'Gara kicked a penalty in the last couple of minutes to give the home side a 19-17 win.

"It was pretty close and that's frustrating. It was pretty much an international team that we were playing," said Murray

"The Heineken Cup is a great challenge for us and the players are relishing the chance to pit themselves against the best teams in Europe.

"Our captain told us to go out there and scrap like mongrels for the ball and that's what we did. We wore our hearts on our sleeves out there."
