The splendidly named George David Campese Ma'afu has established himself as a regular in the Fijian front-row just over a year after making one of the more noteworthy debuts in the history of rugby.
Ma'afu travelled to the Fijian national trials in 2010 and impressed sufficiently to earn himself a place in the squad for their June Test against Australia. Ma'afu was named at loose-head for the game in Canberra and that meant, in a truly remarkable twist of fate, that he would literally have to go head-to-head with his brother, Salesi, who was also making his Test debut and had been named at tight-head by the Wallabies.
Fiji were routed by Ma'afu performed creditably and retained his place in the Fijian front-row for the subsequent Pacific Nations Cup clashes with Japan, Tonga and Samoa.
Ma'afu was then named in the squad for the November tour of Europe, starting the famous draw against Wales in Cardiff, and after further starts against Samoa and New Zealand in the summer of 2011 now looks set to play a prominent role for Fiji in this year's World Cup campaign.
