Sale Sharks have continued their re-building ahead of the new Premiership season with the signing of Samoan 7s star Mikaele Pesamino.

The 26-year-old lit up the IRB Sevens Series last season on his way to the IRB Sevens Player of the Year award - scoring 56 tries as Samoa captured the title for the first time. The winger, nicknamed 'Lightning', also boasts five Test caps and joins the English club from Auckland in New Zealand where he has played provincial rugby since 2007.

"This is a massive signing for the club," said Sharks head coach Mike Brewer who has also welcomed scrum-half Mike Petri, prop Karena Wihongi and wing Rhys Crane into his squad in recent weeks. "Mikaele is incredibly quick and has wanted to play in the Premiership. He had the choice of joining other clubs in the UK but he has chosen Sale Sharks and I am sure our supporters will be very impressed with him."

Sharks CEO Mick Hogan also heralded Pesamino's arrival as the club bid to improve on their 11th place finish in last season's Premiership. "This is another big signing for the club. In the last 24 hours we have announced the signing of powerhouse prop Karena Wihongi and today we are announcing probably the fastest player in world rugby."
