The Scarlets have decided against offering on-loan Samoan forward Jonny Fa'amatuainu a permanent deal with the Welsh region.

The 27-year-old joined the Scarlets on a year-long loan from Aviva Premiership side Bath. But, despite appearing in 20 matches, he has failed to convince the Welsh side to offering a full contract.

"Jonny's been fantastic. He's brought a great amount of energy to the place," Scarlets coach Nigel Davies told the BBC. "We'd like to thank him for what he's done for us."

Fa'amatuainu's progress was hampered by a knee injury and he was banned for three weeks following a dangerous tackle in a Heineken Cup match against Perpignan. However he did score a hat-trick in the Anglo-Welsh Cup win over Leeds in November.
