Bath have confirmed fly-half Tom Heathcote will join Edinburgh Rugby next season.

Heathcote, 22, had one more year left on his deal at The Rec but Bath have agreed a release to allow him to progress his international aspirations with Scotland. Since joining in 2011 Heathcote has made 50 appearances for Bath, and his club form saw him make his debut for Scotland in his second season.

"This was a really hard decision for me to make - I've played all my senior rugby at Bath and have had some fantastic experiences here," Heathcote said. "I haven't been able to get the game time I'd have liked this season though, and if I'm to push on with my career and playing for Scotland I need to be playing regular rugby. I'd like to thank everyone connected to the Club for the amazing support I've received since I joined the Academy, and I've no doubt the current group will improve even further next season."

Bath coach Mike Ford says he resepects the decision Heathcote has made and paid tribute to how he has conducted himself at the club.

"We're really sad to see Tommy go. He's a fantastic young player and a true professional at a young age. He was keen to move to help further his international career before the Rugby World Cup and we didn't want to hinder his chances of playing for Scotland. I'm sure the move will help him reach his full potential, and we wish him all the very best at Edinburgh."
