A resilient USA claimed their first victory over Canada since 2009 after coming from behind to snatch a 38-35 win at the death in Sacramento.

Canada took the consolation prize of outscoring their North American rivals five tries to four, but the Eagles secured the ultimate bragging rights as competition between the emerging nations continues to improve.

USA owed much to fullback Chris Wyles, who notched up 28 points from the kicking tee and a try, as they fought back from 28-18 at half-time.

Taking control of the match early on, USA were quick to put points on the board and dominated possession in the opening exchanges. But it was Canada who crashed over for the first try of the match in the 23rd minute via Harry Jones.

In a free-scoring first half, Canada fullback James Pritchard touched down twice and Ciaran Hearn added another to make it four tries for the visitors before half-time. USA kept themselves in touching distance with tries from Wyles and Blaime Scully.

Canada started quickly in the second half, Jones again going over from long range for his side's fifth score. But a resurgent USA continued to hit back and soon crossed the whitewash for another two tries, scored by Scully and fellow wing Brett Thompson, holding out 38-35 for the final minutes.
