Mike Friday will be aiming to spoil England's Olympic dreams after reportedly agreeing to become head coach of the USA Sevens side.

According to a report in the Rugby Paper, a formal announcement will be made next week, with Friday set to combine his new USA Sevens role with that of director of rugby at London Scottish.

Friday is thought to have negotiated a deal with Scottish which will allow him to split his time between the two posts, with head coach James Buckland, backs coach Peter Richards and head of performance Tim Harper taking charge of day-to-day affairs at the Championship club.

Friday is renowned for his Sevens work, previously leading England to four successive Hong Kong Sevens victories and helping emerging nation Kenya to a fifth-placed finish in the 2012-13 IRB World Series.

This season's IRB World Series also serves as qualifying for the 2016 Olympics, at which Sevens will make its debut as an Olympic sport. Only the top four teams are guaranteed a place at the Rio games, with the remaining nations going through a system of regional qualifiers and a world repechage competition.

England have been nominated as the lead nation to attempt to secure qualification on behalf of Great Britain, while the USA will be looking to improve on their 13th-place finish in last year's World Series.
