Sitiveni Sivivatu is looking at a four-month spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious shoulder injury playing for Castres in a pre-season fixture with Brive.

Sivivatu suffered shoulder problems while at Clermont Auvergne last season, when he scored just four tries, and specialists have confirmed the former All Blacks winger now needs surgery.

Sivivatu moved in the close season to Castres after three campaigns with Clermont Auvergne. The 32-year-old - capped 48 times - was Castres' headline signing in agreeing a three-year contract.

Castres, who have finished as Top 14 runners-up for the past two years, kick-off their campaign against Stade Francais this weekend. They will also be without props Karena Wihongi and Yannick Forestier as well as second-rower Benjamin Desroche.
