Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi remains in doubt for England's Six Nations opener against Wales as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.

Tuilagi has been out of action since October and while he is expected to make a return later this month, the clash with Wales in Cardiff may prove a bridge too far.

"It may well come too soon, we'll see," Tuilagi's Leicester boss Richard Cockerill said after the Tigers beat Bath 17-8. "It's a day-by-day, week-by-week thing. Manu is so important to club and country."

Tuilagi missed England's entire November campaign that saw defeats to New Zealand and South Africa but victories over Australia and Samoa.

Cockerill said Tuilagi would still play a major role in England's Six Nations campaign despite doubts over his eventual return date. "By the end of this month, Manu will be playing. He is progressing really well, and we want to get him right. He will be fit for the Six Nations at some point."
