World Cup-winner Neil Back believes home advantage could be a massive boost to England's chances of lifting the sport's biggest prize but has also sounded a note of caution about the huge pressure that will be on the team when they run out against Fiji on September 18.

Three of the seven World Cups have been won by teams playing on home turf - New Zealand in 1987 and 2011 and South Africa in 1995. While teams usually fare better in familiar surroundings, Back, who was a key part of the England squad that won the 2003 World Cup, believes it could boost England's chances of lifting the trophy but warns the pressure and expectation will be more intense than ever before.

"If harnessed correctly it [England playing at Twickenham] could be a huge advantage," Back told ESPN. "Home advantage in sport is always seen as an advantage, in any sport. It shouldn't be - players should be as mentally strong away as they are at home.

"History shows it does bring an advantage but it also brings pressure and expectation. England are definitely one of the teams who can win it but I think more teams than ever before can win this World Cup. It's really intriguing. I believe for the first time that a team who loses a pool game can go on to win the competition."

Back's area of expertise is the back-row and England boast a wealth of talent in that area of the pack with James Haskell, Tom Wood, Maro Itoje, Ben Morgan, Chris Robshaw, Billy Vunipola, Nick Easter, Matt Kvesic and Calum Clark all made the 50-man training squad which was unveiled Wednesday. One man who has been playing at blindside in recent times is cross-code star Sam Burgess but Back believes there are better options than him in the back-row.

"If all the back-rowers are fit and well then I wouldn't expect Sam Burgess to make the final World Cup squad. There are better consistent performers than him at blindside who have done better for club and country this year."
