Wallabies wing Henry Speight is one of three debutants named in the Australian Sevens squad for the World Rugby Sevens Series Dubai tournament.

Thunderbolts interim coach Scott Bowen named his 12-man squad for the opening round of the 2015-16 series, including debutants Speight, Melbourne Rebels back Tom Kingston and Stephan van der Walt.

The squad includes many of the same names who secured Australia a place at the 2016 Rio Olympic games two weeks ago at the Oceania regional qualifying tournament in Auckland, including captain Ed Jenkins and star centre Cameron Clark.

Pat McCutcheon (hamstring) and Nick Malouf (knee) are unavailable for the tournament due to injury.

Scott Bowen said the side was excited for the opening tournament, especially after they finished tournament runners-up to South Africa in Dubai last December.

"Everyone is excited for Dubai," Bowen said. "The boys did well at the event 12 months ago and there is no reason to think we can't perform well this time around.

"The team is looking sharp and the players are fit and raring to go. As a group, we are battle-hardened having played in some high-pressure tournaments. When you add the fact we have three debutants keen to make their mark, then it's a tournament for all of us - from players, coaches and fans - to look forward to."

Australian Sevens squad:

Henry Speight, Tom Kingston, Sam Myers, Lewis Holland, James Stannard, Con Foley, Cameron Clark, Stephen van der Walt, Ed Jenkins, Allan Fa'alava;au, Pama Fou, Tom Cusack
