Zondagh warns Saracens

Saracens' South African coach Alan Zondagh has warned his team to get the basics right against bottom club Rotherham on Sunday.

Rotherham travel from south Yorkshire looking for an unlikely first win of the Zurich Premiership season after six defeats so far. Saracens meanwhile beat Sale 51-6 away last week.

But Zondagh saw signs of trouble against Sale. "It was actually a poor game of rugby - we made far too many little mistakes.

"We will keep working on the basics - scrum, line-out, kick-offs. It sounds simple but we cannot run before we can walk."

Zondagh says his main problem last season - his first with Saracens - was a lack of consistency among the backs. "This season it was the forwards who did not start well," he admitted.

"But they are beginning to step up their play in contact. They are contesting the ball and winning back ball, as they should be. Now we have to get the two units, backs and forwards, to integrate better."

Test stars Thomas Castaignède, Kyran Bracken and Richard Hill will all start for Saracens while England lock Danny Grewcock has recovered from blood poisoning to make the XV.

Rotherham have selection worries, with a stomach virus sidelining fly-half Simon Binns and lock Glen Kenworthy, so player-coach Mike Umaga switches from full-back to number 10 and Zimbabwean forward Leon Greef gets a first start.

Rotherham have won critical praise if nothing else from their previous away trips to Leicester and Newcastle.

``It's another big challenge," said team manager Jim Kilfoyle. "But we competed so well against Leicester and Newcastle and now need a similar performance down at Saracens.''
