Lane parts company with Sarries

Saracens have been rocked by the news that Tim Lane will not be returning to take up a coaching position at the Vicarage Road club.

Lane had widely been tipped to replace Francois Pienaar, who announced he was quitting the club two weeks ago.

The Springbok assistant coach spent four weeks working with Saracens before returning home to complete what were expected to be the final stages of the move.

Instead, he informed the London club on Monday morning that he would not be returning, leaving Saracens to widen their search for a new coach following recent disappointments under Pienaar.

"After discussing the possible move with his family Tim decided that it would be unfair to uproot their lives after settling in Cape Town only a year or so ago," said the official Saracens website, www.saracens.com.

"This leaves the door wide open for Saracens to continue their search for Francois Pienaar's replacement, but as previously stated they are not looking for a 'short-term fix'."
