Blues v Chiefs - Preview
March 21, 2002

The Blues welcome the Chiefs to Auckland on Saturday for their latest Super 12 clash.

HEAD TO HEAD: Blues 4 Chiefs 2
LAST TIME: Chiefs 34-16 - Rotorua

WALKING WOUNDED
Big changes for the Blues. Gone are Hayden Reid, Steve Devine (ankle injury), Matua Parkinson, Xavier Rush and Christian Califano. In are James Arlidge, Mark Robinson, Justin Collins, Vula Maimuri and Tony Woodcock. Carlos Spencer moves to fullback with James Arlidge starting at five-eighth. Others back in the side are Mark Robinson, Justin Collins, Vula Maimuri and Tony Woodcock. Maimuri will pack at lock with Troy Flavell on the blindisde.
There are still doubts for the Chiefs with captain and lock Deon Muir, while Jonno Gibbes is battling a virus.

FORM
The Blues were particularly disappointing in losing 30-11 to the Crusaders two weeks ago and showed very little in attack. Their explosive 60-7 win against the Hurricanes in the opening round seems a distant memory.
The Chiefs lost to the Reds 27-13 in their last game and they don't watch it will be making a serious bid for the wooden-spoon after opening with three losses.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Troy Flavell v Marty Holah
James Arlidge v David Hill
Carlos Spencer v Todd Miller

WE THINK
The Blues are fast returning to their bad ways of the past season, but it's not a lost cause. There's plenty of time to resurrect the season and prove that their first round effort wasn't a fluke. Selectors will be feeling the pinch though if this new-look side fails again. The Chiefs must be a frustrated bunch to look at the table and see no wins when they have shown enough to at least deserve to have two wins. The big problem for the Chiefs is they are experiencing major problems trying to cross the opposition tryline and have the second worst attacking record in the competition. Blues by 10.
