Waratahs v Sharks - Preview
March 21, 2002

The Waratahs entertain the troubled Sharks in the Super 12 on Saturday, Rudolf Straeuli's last in charge of the South African side.

HEAD TO HEAD: Waratahs 1 Sharks 2 Draw 1
LAST TIME: Sharks 42-17 - Durban

WALKING WOUNDED
The Waratahs received a few bumps and bruises from their win against the Cats. Fullback Mat Rogers is the biggest concern with a torn abdominal muscle. Prop Matt Dunning (corked arm), prop Patricio Noriega (rib cartilage), No.8 David Lyons (shoulder), hooker Brendan Cannon and lock Jono West all have a few niggles.

The struggling Sharks were dealt a further blow with fullback Ricardo Loubscher and utility Thinus Delport returning home. Loubscher has a rib injury and Delport has tendonitis. And to make matters worse, the two replacements that arrived this week - Werner Grey van Pittius and Rodger Smith - sustained groin injuries at training.

FORM
The Waratahs are in stunning form ... simple as that. A 44-21 win against the Cats maintained their unbeaten record.
It seemed all was not lost for the Sharks with a spirited effort against the Brumbies two weeks ago, but last week's 40-17 loss to the Hurricanes was disappointing to say the least and they are yet to win after four rounds. Last year's finalist boast the worst attack in the competition.

WHO'S HOT
Take your pick with the Waratahs, but No.8 David Lyons had a blinder against the Cats before coming off early to rest a shoulder injury.

WHO'S NOT
New coach Kevin Putt will have his work cut out when he takes over from new Springbok coach Rudolf Straeuli after this weekend.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Brendan Cannon v John Smit
Rod Moore v Ollie le Roux
Duncan McRae v Herkie Kruger

WE THINK
Sydney loves a winner and the fans will out in force again to watch the Waratahs juggernaut roll on. The Sharks, despite their lowly position at the bottom of the ladder, should never be taken lightly, but at the moment there seems little stopping the Waratahs. Waratahs by 17.
