Wood set to return for Ireland
March 26, 2002

Ireland hooker Keith Wood is set to make his 2002 Six Nations bow when the men in green look to scupper France's hopes of a Grand Slam.

Wood was unexpectedly left out of the team which beat Italy at the weekend but was stated to be suffering from a minor back injury.

In all, he has made just one appearance for his Zurich Premiership side Harlequins since damaging a calf muscle in a Powergen Cup game in mid-December and to that extent is in urgent need of additional match practice.

An Irish RFU spokesman said yesterday that they expected Wood to play for his club at Bristol next Sunday in what would be, in essence, a fitness test for the hooker.
