Bath linked with Montferrand prop

Bath coach Michael Foley is set to continue his west country revolution by signing Montferrand prop Alessio Galasso this summer.

The 28-year-old front row, who has two international caps, looks set to follow Australian lock Mark Connors into the Recreation Ground as coach Michael Foley continues his rebuilding plans.

Although Bath have yet to confirm the move, it is believed Galasso will sign a two-year contract with the west country outfit, who fought a prolonged fight against the drop last term before eventually finishing one place off the bottom.

"Galasso has told us he wants to go and play in the Zurich Premiership with Bath next season," said a Montferrand spokesman.

"He still has some time left on his contract here but, if it's what he wants, nobody here will make it difficult for him to go to Bath."

Former Wallaby hooker Foley, who replaced former Bath favourite Jon Callard as head coach midway through last season, is keen to bring another international class front row to the club before the start of the new campaign.

However, the next new recruit is likely to be a director of rugby.

The club are believed to be finalising the appointment, with an announcement due later this week.

Former England coach Jack Rowell remains favourite for the job, although he has consistently shrugged off speculation linking him with a move from Bristol, where his contract expired after Saturday's Zurich Championship final defeat by Gloucester at Twickenham.
