October 15, 2002

The RFU announced today that it is contacting the referees' societies regarding a one minute silence to be held at all this weekend's matches from National Division One and below in memory of those who lost there lives in Bali.

It has been a tragic loss of life and the RFU is writing to all the affected rugby unions to convey its sympathies at this difficult time.

Terry Burwell, the RFU Community Rugby Director said, "Everyone has been deeply distressed by the events in Bali. The rugby community has lost a number of its players and members and our deepest condolences go out to their friends and family.

"The RFU Charitable Trust would consider sympathetically assisting any relatives of British rugby players affected by this tragedy."

Anyone needing help should contact Terry Burwell at the RFU, Twickenham.
