Tykes thankful to be at home
October 16, 2002
Leeds Tykes take a narrow six-point advantage into their Round 1 Second Leg Parker Pen Challenge Cup encounter against Petraca Padova with coach Jon Callard warning "we have not even done half the job yet". The Tykes had plenty of travel problems going to Italy last weekend, only arriving at their hotel at midnight on Friday night, and Callard declared that, "our performance matched our preparations". "But credit to the lads because they had to dig in at the end of the math and they did just that. They did the club proud. "The scoreline suggests how good Petraca Padova are, they were disrupitive and committed and, had they taken a few more chances, it could have been even tighter. "That said, and even allowing for the circumstances, we were poor and we will have to play a lot better at home on Sunday." Three of the unseeded teams came up with home victories in the First Leg. Rugby Treviso beat Castres Olympique - last season's Heineken Cup semi-finalists - 22-9, Pau edged out Bridgend 18-6 and Ebbw Vale won 20-16 against Montauban, WIth the second round places in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup at stake this weekend there is still plenty to play for and Callard, for one, is aware that six points do not make a comfortable safety net.
