Thorn back with Crusaders
December 5, 2002

Brad Thorn has been picked up by former club Canterbury in the Super 12 draft for next season.

Thorn, the ex-Australian rugby league international, played with the Crusaders in the 2001 season but didn't play in 2002, citing a lack of passion for the game.

Thorn retuned to rugby union last week, signing a two-year deal with the New Zealand Rugby Football Union.

He replaces Ben Blair in the Crusaders' squad. Blair dislocated his shoulder and will undergo surgery next week.

Thorn's addition further strengthens the defending Super 12 champions' forward pack. It already includes All Black second-rowers Chris Jack and Norm Maxwell.
