Lomu misses Super 12 opener

Hurricanes winger Jonah Lomu will be sidelined by injury for the opening Super 12 clash with the Crusaders at Jade Stadium on Saturday night.

All Black Lomu missed training sessions for the Hurricanes this week and will not take part in the the game due to a persistent knee injury.

However, Hurricanes coaches Colin Cooper and Murray Roulston have been boosted by the news that skipper Tana Umaga is fit and raring to go.

Riki Flutey will start at No.10 with David Holwell on the bench. In the back row Kupu Vanisi has held off the competition from Taranaki's Chris Masoe to join All Blacks Rodney So'oialo and Jerry Collins.

Elsewhere, Jason Spice starts the game at scrum-half with Christian Cullen at fullback.
