Leicester have boosted their scrum-half options ahead of the autumn internationals period with the signing of experienced New Zealander Jason Spice on a short-term loan.

Leicester have been left short of cover at No.9 with Ben Youngs away with England and Sam Harrison currently injured. James Grindal was the only other senior scrum-half at the club ahead of this weekend's Aviva Premiership clash with Gloucester at Kingsholm, prompting Tigers to bring in short-term cover.

Spice, 35, has been playing in the national leagues with the Cornish All Blacks at Launceston since leaving Bristol in the summer. After playing for the Blues and Hurricanes in New Zealand, Spice gained extensive experience in the UK with spells at the Ospreys and Cardiff Blues, as well as Bristol where he played a prominent part in their Championship challenge last season with six tries in 29 appearances.
