Tom Guest is the latest Harlequins player to pledging his future to the Premiership club after agreeing to stay in south-west London until end of the 2011/12 season.

The No.8 follows props Joe Marler and James Johnston, who both signed contract extensions in recent days. Guest, who has been in impressive form this season, decided not to activate a clause in his contact that would have allowed him to move to another club. Instead, he will stay with Quins and fight with England forward Nick Easter for the No.8 shirt.

"There is so much potential in this young squad and I am excited about the future," he said. "I enjoy the style of rugby that is played here, something which suits me as a player, and want to continue developing as a player here at Harlequins."

The 26-year-old is Quins' top try scorer this season and won the players' player of the month award for November after impressive while team-mate and No.8 rival Easter was away on international duty. Guest has already made 130 appearances for the club, and scored 20 tries.

And Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea promised that Guest's loyalty would be rewarded with a fresh deal next year.

He said: "I am delighted that Tom has put this matter to bed before the new year and I have no doubt we will be sitting down early next year to extend Tom's tenure at the club for a number of years to come. The back-row resources we have are as good as any in the Aviva Premiership, with the likes of Captain Chris Robshaw, Nick Easter, Marie Fa'asavalu and Will Skinner, and rising stars Chris York and Luke Wallace all challenging for starting positions."
