Bath have recalled flanker Josh Ovens from Bristol after an injury to their South African flanker Francois Louw.

The 22-year-old is contracted to Bath but is also registered with Bristol, allowing him to play for both clubs. Ovens has spent the majority of the season on loan with Bristol but has now been summoned by Bath after a knee injury to Louw and the retirements of Lewis Moody and Andy Beattie left the Premiership club short on back-row resources.

Bath first-team coach Martin Haag said told the Western Daily Press: "Josh is obviously our player and, unfortunately, sometimes needs must. With the situation with Lewis Moody and Andy Beattie, it's one of those things we have to do. We don't really have anyone else. We have a couple of young academy guys coming through, but I think it's a little too early for them.

"Josh is an up-and-comer who has played a bit of Premiership rugby and played a lot of Championship rugby for Bristol this year, where he's done very, very well. We are still a bit light for numbers in the back row, which is why we've called Josh back. He's more than likely to be involved this weekend."
