Aviva Premiership strugglers Newcastle have announced a new two-year deal for hooker Rob Vickers.

The 30-year-old made his Falcons debut during the 2006-07 season, emerging through the club's academy system while a student at Durham University. He has gone on make more than 70 appearances for the club and represented England Saxons in the 2010 Churchill Cup. Despite the Falcons appearing set for relegation this season, Vickers was delighted to sign a new deal with the club.

"Newcastle Falcons is a club that I have been at my entire professional career and it is a club that I love," said Vickers. "There have been a lot of changes at the club over the years and the ambition that Semore Kurdi has shown since he got involved with the club has really impressed me."

Director of rugby Gary Gold said: "I am delighted for Rob that he has signed a new two-year deal. He has been a fantastic servant for the club and this is great news for the future of the club."
