Stuart Lancaster on the squad for the autumn series

England coach Stuart Lancaster has added four players to the Elite Player Squad ahead of the November Tests.

With both Manu Tuilagi and Brad Barritt out injured, Lancaster has added three centres to the mix with uncapped trio Joel Tomkins, Luther Burrell and Henry Trinder all called up. He has also bolstered his options in the back-row with Tom Johnson added as cover for the injured Tom Croft.

Trinder's call-up is perhaps the most eye-catching as he was not named in the Saxons squad back on August 1 so his impressive early season form has clearly been good enough to persuade Lancaster to bring him in. Tomkins was due to tour with England to Argentina in the summer but was ruled out through injury while Burrell travelled, but did not earn a Test cap.

Johnson is no stranger to Lancaster as he has earned five caps during his tenure. He is promoted from the Saxons with Croft out until the end of the season. Northampton Saints prop Alex Corbisiero is retained in the squad amid reports he could miss the autumn Tests through injury.

The players will now meet on October 27 at Pennyhill Park ahead of their first autumn Test against Australia on November 2.

"We have been looking forward to this internationals series ever since we got back from Argentina," Lancaster said. "As a coaching group we have watched a lot of rugby and we are pleased with the form of the squad. The camp is an important part of our preparation and we are looking forward to meeting up.

"Inevitably there have been some injuries and there is still a big European weekend ahead. But injures always create opportunities and we are pleased to call up Tom Johnson, Joel Tomkins, Henry Trinder and Luther Burrell into the senior EPS, with Luther joining us as injury cover so it will be great for him to come in and put a marker down in what is going to be a competitive selection leading into the Australia game.

"We have three major Tests ahead of us and we are looking forward to the challenge."
