Gloucester have announced the signing of Scotland centre Matt Scott ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Scott will join from Edinburgh and will offer an option at both No.12 and No.13 for the Cherry and Whites. He has won 33 caps for Scotland and he is looking forward to linking up with his new side at the end of the current campaign.

"It's the right time for me to broaden my horizons and experience a new rugby environment in order to help my development as a player, and Gloucester can certainly provide that," Scott said. "I've had the opportunity to talk to Greig [Laidlaw] in depth about what the club, the city and the supporters are like, and he has nothing but good things to say about them all.

"I also played at Kingsholm for Scotland during the Rugby World Cup and loved the experience. I've been very impressed by everything I've seen at the club. Playing in the Aviva Premiership will make me a better overall player, I've no doubt of that and I hope that it will also improve my play at international level. It's an exciting prospect, but it's a little way off. For now, I'm just focusing on working hard and playing to the best of my ability for both Edinburgh and Scotland."

Gloucester boss David Humphreys added: "I'm delighted to confirm that Matt Scott will be joining Gloucester next season. He is a proven international centre who will add real depth and quality to our existing options in midfield.

"He is still a young man with many years of top level rugby ahead of him and I'm sure all our supporters will look forward to seeing him perform in a Gloucester jersey. We need to continue to build strength in depth across our squad to compete regularly with the top teams in Europe and Matt's arrival is another step closer to us achieving that."
