Worcester Warriors back-row Kai Horstmann has signed a new deal at Sixways that will keep him at the club until 2012.

Horstmann made his bow for the Warriors in 2005 after making the switch from Harlequins, and has since racked up 96 appearances for the club. As an indicator of his stature with the coaching staff and players he was handed the captain's armband in the absence of club captain Pat Sanderson.

An England Saxon in 2006 and Worcester's player of the season in 2006-07, Hortsmann has drawn praise from Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock, "Kai is reaching the peak of his powers," he said. "He is an intelligent athlete who really is Mr Dependable and is hugely respected by the players."
