Sale Sharks' Jason White is to leave the Premiership club at the end of the current season after signing a two year deal with French Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne.

A Premiership winner with the Sharks in 2005-06, he joined Sale in 2003 from Glasgow and has played over 100 games for the club having made his debut at Newcastle in the 2003-04 season. Capped over 50 times for Scotland , White has also captained his country as well as the Sharks last season. He was also a British Lion in 2005 when he was called up to replace Richard Hill.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Sale Sharks and have played with some great players at the club," said White. "The highlight of my time here is undoubtedly the Guinness Premiership win in 2006, after topping the table. I would like to thank the coaches Philippe and Kingsley for everything they have done for me.

"I want to leave Sale Sharks on a high and am looking to helping them win some silverware before I leave. It has always been an ambition of mine to play in France and I am looking forward to moving to Clermont in the summer."

Sale Sharks Head Coach, Kingsley Jones said, "It's been a pleasure to work with Jason over the past five years. He is a model professional and always gives us 100%. Jason will be missed but he has a great opportunity in front of him and we wish him well and thank him for his outstanding contribution as a Sale Sharks player."

Sale Sharks Chief Executive, James Jennings added, "We will all be sad to see Jason leave the Club. He has made a fantastic contribution over the years and was an excellent Club captain. We wish him well in the future and hope that in his last season at Sharks he will collect another winner's medal".

White has recently undergone surgery on a dislocated finger suffered in the Premiership clash with Wasps but hopes to have returned to full fitness in time for the start of the 2009 Six Nations Championship.
