  • Newcastle have secured the services of Toulon tight-head Tim Ryan as a replacement for Carl Hayman, who went the other way at the end of the season.

Falcons boss Alan Tait had originally been interested in Toulon's Tonga Lea'aetoa but dropped his interest after being unimpressed with the player during their Challenge Cup meeting with Connacht.

"We are delighted Tim has chosen to take up that challenge," Tait told Journal Live. "Tom May gave him a ringing endorsement, he could not speak highly enough of him as a man and a player. I know the fitness coach at Toulon as well, and he told me Tim is a really hard worker in the gym.

"I made the decision to drop the interest in Tonga after watching the Connacht game. I was unimpressed to be honest and made the call to look elsewhere then."

  • Scottish Rugby will honour its greatest servants in a new Hall of Fame. The first induction will be held at Murrayfield in November following the deliberations of a panel set to include British & Irish Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan, John Beattie, John Jeffrey, Chris Rea and journalist Norman Mair.

  • Wasps have confirmed that flanker Hugo Ellis, fly-half Eoghan Hickey and prop Gabriel Bocca will leave the club. Ellis has signed a new deal with Newport Gwent-Dragons while Hickey and Bocca are yet to find new clubs.
