Leicester prop Marcos Ayerza has signed a new deal to remain at Welford Road.

The Argentina international loose-head had already committed to the club until next season's World Cup in New Zealand, but has opted to put pen to paper on a further extension.

Since his arrival in England from Buenos Aires club Cardinal Newman in 2006, Ayerza has played over 100 games for the Tigers, winning three Premiership titles and featuring in two Heineken Cup finals.

To date he has won 29 caps for the Pumas and forms part of a formidable front-row unit at the Tigers alongside Italian stalwart Martin Castrogiovanni and promising England tight-head Dan Cole.

"Marcos has developed as a player with every season he has spent with us and I'm delighted that he has agreed an extension to his contract," Tigers boss Richard Cockerill said. "He is a top-class operator and he is among our senior core of players now."

Ayerza, 27, said: "I am entering my fifth season with Leicester Tigers and this is a great place to play your club rugby. We have an excellent group of players, there is a great spirit here and I hope we can start the new season well and I'm looking forward to it."
