Sale Sharks

Last season: 11th
Captain: TBC
Coach: Mike Brewer

Ins: Head coach Mike Brewer is the big change at the Sharks, and his recruitment drive has brought reliable Blues fullback Paul Williams and electrifying Samoa Sevens star Mikaele Pesamino to the north west.

Outs: Skipper Dean Schofield has joined the Toulon revolution and he was not alone in taking his leave after a difficult season. Reliable centre Lee Thomas and back-rower Luke Abraham have joined Lyon, scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth Saracens and Wales lock Brent Cockbain has retired. Long-serving wing Oriol Ripol also took his leave, joining Worcester.

Coach: Mike Brewer. With Kingsley Jones moving upstairs as director of rugby and Jason Robinson quitting the coaching staff, Brewer has a chance to carve out his own squad and improve on a dismal effort in 2009-10. The former All Black will bring steel to the Sharks' defence and a straightforward attitude to their shortcomings.

Prediction: Their squad is not lacking in star names with Dwayne Peel, Ben Cohen, Andrew Sheridan and Mark Cueto all preparing for a new season at Edgeley Park, but with Charlie Hodgson set to miss the opening rounds of the season after shoulder surgery, there may be some issues at fly-half. A definite improvement on last season awaits though.
