Sale skipper James Gaskell has an '80% chance' of being fit to face Harlequins at Edgeley Park on Friday after fears that he had broken his leg were dismissed.

The 20-year-old, the youngest captain in the club's history, was injured in Sunday's 28-13 Aviva Premiership loss to Saracens at Vicarage Road, with head coach Mike Brewer originally fearing that he had fractured his fibula.

"The good news regarding James is that there is no fracture, or even strain, and it looks like he will have an 80% chance of being fit to play at home to Harlequins on Friday," Brewer said. "The factor that will determine whether James can play will be whether he is able to train on Wednesday.

"Had he been ruled out for a week or two I wouldn't have been overly concerned but, obviously, it is good news that the injury isn't what we first feared."

The Sharks have also reported that Wales international scrum-half Dwayne Peel will be fit for selection this weekend despite taking a blow to the nose against Saracens.
