Gavin Henson is hoping to make his Saracens debut 'sooner rather than later' as he eyes a return to the Wales squad in time for the Six Nations.

The former Ospreys centre has not played since March 2009 due to injury and a series of media commitments but is in line for his bow when Sarries take on Wasps at Wembley Stadium on Boxing Day.

"I'm convinced my rugby's going to go well and I'm just going to do everything I can now to try and get in that Six Nations team," Henson told BBC Radio Wales. "I think we're due another Grand Slam and I want to be part of it.

"I just can't wait to play now and I'm just trying to impress as much as I can now in training with Saracens. I hope it's sooner rather than later because obviously the bigger picture for me is the Six Nations and playing for my country again."

Henson's exit from BBC reality TV show Strictly Come Dancing has opened the door for a comeback and the 28-year-old is happy to make it on the Wembley stage given the paucity of reserve fixtures in the run-up to the Wasps showdown.

"I might just be chucked straight in the deep end but I don't mind that," he said. "It's a new chapter in my life now, I feel brilliant, I feel really positive. The way I look at it, they have used me for promotion for that game so they're going to have to play me now I'm hoping.

"I think they've sold 50-60,000 [tickets] so it would be a hell of a game to come back to, I'd love to be involved in that one. They've got a couple of injuries so I'm hoping I'll force my way in there, hopefully the game hasn't left me behind too much."

Sarries chief executive Edward Griffiths has also admitted that the club hope to tie Henson down to a long-term deal following the Six Nations.

"The intention on both sides is to put something long term together in terms of a contract which we would aim to sort out before the end of the season," he told The Evening Standard. "Hopefully, Gavin will be involved with Wales in the Six Nations and then we would try and conclude this around April.

"We were allowed under Heineken Cup rules to register Gavin as a wild card new player for the Racing Metro game but he still has commitments to Strictly and that means his first involvement in a match squad for us will be the Wasps game.

"There was a hope he could come off the bench in the Racing game, however, he has to complete his work on Strictly. He is training with us on a regular basis and each time a session finishes, the coaches are talking about the special things he is able to do on the pitch."
