Experienced centre Rodd Penney has agreed to rejoin Saracens after a brief stint in Italy with Aironi.

The 32-year-old, who made 63 appearances for Sarries between 2006 and 2010, joined the Italian side in September but has now decided to return to his former side and will be available for selection for Saturday's Anglo-Welsh Cup clash against the Scarlets.

Penney will provide added strength in depth for the Saracens with new signing Gavin Henson injured and Brad Barritt in action for England Saxons against Italy 'A' at the weekend.

"My time at Aironi was memorable and one which my wife and I will forever cherish," Penney said. "Being part of a passionate Aironi culture with such loyal supporters was a unique experience. I take with me some great friendships from Aironi. I appreciate Aironi's support in my decision to return to Saracens."

Penney's return was welcomed by director of rugby Mark McCall, who said: "We're delighted to have Rodd back with us. He knows our systems inside out and has quickly settled back into the team."
