Sale Sharks have completed the high-profile signing of Ireland tight-head Tony Buckley.

The 30-year-old has signed from Magners League heavyweights Munster on a three-year deal and is the first capture of director of sport Steve Diamond's second stint with the Sharks.

Buckley made his Test bow on tour to Argentina in 2007 and has since gone on to represent Ireland on 21 occasions.

"This is a statement of intent of what Sale Sharks want to achieve. We want to build a team around a dominant pack of forwards," Diamond said. "With Andrew Sheridan having committed himself to the club and now adding Tony, we are shaping up well for next season."

Buckley made his Munster bow in 2005 and has since pulled on a red jersey on 88 occasions. He will leave the province in the summer.

"I felt I needed a new challenge," he said. "I believe the best club to give me that challenge and also help me become a better player is Sale Sharks. They are hungry and ambitious for success and I want to be a part of that."
