Wasps coach Shaun Edwards refused to criticise Greg Garner after the referee showed three of his players yellow cards in their 26-15 Aviva Premiership defeat by Saracens.

Wasps conceded 12 points while they were below strength but Edwards bit his tongue at the post-match press conference, where he was forced to reflect on a fourth straight league loss.

"Obviously they were costly - but did we deserve them?" he said. "It will be much better for me to keep my thoughts to myself otherwise I'll get in a lot of trouble. I'll keep my silence. You saw it, you write it."

Edwards criticised his side's inability to cope with poor conditions at Adams Park but reserved praise for Saracens' halfbacks.

"We started horrifically and in the second half we were outsmarted by the opposing halfbacks," he said. "Their kicking game was much more clinical than ours and it was pretty obvious we are a much better team in the dry.

"We showed a lack of nous in those conditions which our opponents didn't. They were very smart and intelligent with their kicking game."

Edwards also criticised his side's tactics as they tried to rescue the game in the closing stages. "We went for a scrum when we were down to 14 players, which I found a peculiar decision," he said. "It's not a case of me shouting and screaming at anybody because everybody's obviously given 100% effort. It's about trying to educate players to make the right decisions at the right times."

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall praised his team for "a thoroughly professional performance" and a third straight win prior to a trip to leaders Leicester.

"Everybody worked very hard and we were well managed by our half-backs in difficult conditions," he said. "Penalties conceded and yellow cards conceded generally come from pressure and, with the conditions, we set out to put Wasps under pressure.

"Thirteen points from those three games is everything we wanted. We're on a nice little run at the moment. Welford Road is a tough place to go but we won there last season so the boys have no fear of going there."
