Andrew Sheridan is set to miss the remaining games in England's Six Nations Grand Slam bid after suffering a torn calf.

The Sale prop was forced off in the first half of England's 17-9 victory over France on Saturday, being replaced by London Irish youngster Alex Corbisiero, who had made his debut a week earlier in a resounding win over Italy.

England manager Martin Johnson on Tuesday confirmed that Sheridan faced between two and four weeks out and that he would "probably" miss remaining Championship games against Scotland and Ireland.

The loose-head has suffered a grade two tear of the calf and has returned to Sale from England's training camp in Oxford. Fly-half Toby Flood has also undergone a scan on his injured Achilles and the medical staff remain confident he will be fit to face Scotland.

"Sheridan has a grade two tear, so it is not good. I think he is probably out of the Championship. I am hearing it is two to four weeks," Johnson said. "He is probably out of the Championship unless there is some huge improvement very quickly.

"When Sheridan was injured for the Italy game it was, in a way, a blessing in disguise. It gave Corbs an opportunity and when he came off the bench last week it wasn't all new to him.

"He was playing against a world-class scrummage and world-class players in William Servat and Nicolas Mas and he acquitted himself pretty well. He had to really fight and battle. At times they got one on him and at times he got one on them, so he did really well."

With Flood unlikely to train until Thursday at the earliest, England are set to keep Jonny Wilkinson in camp and not release him back to Toulon this weekend for Top 14 duty.

"Managing injuries are a big part of the job. We anticipate Toby being okay but you can never be sure," Johnson said. "He has a bit of Achilles tendon soreness. We think he will be fine but we will be very cautious with him.

"I doubt Toby will run this week - potentially Thursday, but we will be cautious with him. We will make a call on Jonny based on how we think Floody is. If we have had doubts in the past we have kept guys, particularly going into an intense couple of weeks."
