Sale Sharks have completed the signing of Scotland No.8 Richie Vernon from Glasgow Warriors.

The 23-year-old, capped 10 times, has agreed a two-year deal at Edgeley Park and becomes the Sharks' seventh signing for next term, following Munster prop Tony Buckley, Samoan international fly-half Tasesa Lavea, Wasps hooker Joe Ward, Northampton lock Mark Easter, Leeds flanker Kearnan Myall and Toulon lock Kris Chesney.

"I am delighted that Richie is joining us," Sale's executive director of sport Steve Diamond said. "He is part of the current Scotland squad and played very well when he went on in the Calcutta Cup game at the weekend.

"He is a hard-working flanker or No.8 and he will fit in very well with my plans for next season and beyond."

Vernon added: "Steve Diamond is very clear on the way forward for Sale Sharks, and I am delighted to commit myself to the club for the next two seasons. Having broken into the Scotland side, I see playing in the Aviva Premiership as a challenge that will only improve me as a player."

Meanwhile, Wasps winger Richard Haughton has been cited for alleged dangerous play against Sale earlier this month. The former England Sevens international faces a charge of lifting Sale scrum-half Will Cliff and dropping him or driving him into the ground.

Haughton was reported by independent citing officer Alan Mansell and will face an RFU hearing in front of Judge Jeff Blackett next Tuesday.
