Dragons fullback Martyn Thomas has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken leg in his side's Magners League victory over Benetton Treviso on Sunday.

The 23-year-old suffered a fracture-dislocation of the same leg against Cardiff Blues in April last year, only returning to action at the end of January after a nine-month lay-off.

He will now undergo surgery to correct the problem, while Wales lock Luke Charteris is set for further assessment after suffering a rib injury against the Italians. Winger Aled Brew is expected to be fit to face the Ospreys on April 15 after suffering a twisted ankle.

"We are bitterly disappointed for Martyn," Dragons rugby manager Robert Beale said. "He has had a hard road to recovery from his previous injury and this is a heavy blow for him.

"However, he has shown great strength of character through his rehabilitation and we are confident that he will meet this next challenge head-on."
