Bath have lost second-row duo Peter Short and Stuart Hooper for the remainder of the season with injuries.

Both players were forced from the field in last weekend's 19-15 Aviva Premiership victory over Harlequins, Short with a torn hamstring and Hooper with a broken arm.

"It's unfortunate because they were both playing very well and I'm sure they would have liked to have seen the season out," Bath head coach Steve Meehan told BBC Radio Somerset.

In positive news for the west country side, Meehan confirmed that the influential back-row trio of Lewis Moody, Luke Watson and Simon Taylor are closing in on returns.

"They're all very close. If we don't see them all this weekend, I'm sure we will see at least one of them, and we'll see the others in the next couple of weeks," he said.

"It's a little bit thin in regards of numbers to pick from, but at the same time Ben Skirving, Josh Ovens and Guy Mercer are doing very, very well and we're really happy about their form."

Meanwhile, Newcastle have announced the signing of prop Dan Frazier from Championship side Doncaster Knights. The 22-year-old, who previously played in the Premiership for Harlequins, joins Jordi Pasqualin, Jamie Helleur and Richard Mayhew in agreeing a move to Kingston Park.
