London Irish have bolstered their second-row ranks with the signing of Australian Tom Alexander.

The lock is the younger brother of Wallabies prop Ben Alexander and joins the Exiles on a one year deal from club side Eastwood. Alexander was a member of the Brumbies' development programme during the 2011 Super Rugby season. And Alexander is equally adept in the second-row as he is in the back-row engine room and will bring much needed versatility to the Exiles' pack.

London Irish head coach Toby Booth said: "Tom gives us another option to our forward pack which is important to have during a long, demanding season. He is an athletic, skilful player with a great deal of strength so he will offer a lot of options."

And Alexander is looking forward to developing his skills against the best England has to offer. "I am looking forward to joining up with London Irish and playing rugby in the northern hemisphere," Alexander said. "The brand of rugby played in Europe has always been very physical and confrontational which will suit my style of play.

"I have enjoyed my time at Eastwood but the chance to play for a side like London Irish in Aviva Premiership Rugby was too good to miss."
