Worcester Warriors have announced the signing of Northampton Saints centre Jon Clarke ahead of next season.

The news means that Clarke has now become the second high profile centre to leave the Saints after James Downey recently announced that he is to join Munster ahead of next season. And with the likes of Roger Wilson and Chris Ashton also deciding to move onto pastures new, Saints boss Jim Mallinder will have room to manoeuvre in the salary cap.

But while the Saints are losing one of their integral players from the last couple of seasons, Clarke will bring an experienced presence to the Warriors' centre spots. With 165 games for the Saints and England Saxons caps to his name, coach Richard Hill is relishing the chance to see Clarke pull on the Warriors' jersey.

"We are very excited that Jon will be joining us next season," Clarke said. "He is vastly experienced and has been playing at one of the top clubs in the country for many seasons.

"He is physically a very powerful man and has the ability to offload and break the advantage line. Jon is a multi-skilled player, as he can operate at 12, 13 or 15, and will add a great deal to our midfield options.

"He also has a superb attitude and is very highly thought of in the game as well as being a tremendous talent. He is very serious about his rugby and very serious and ambitious about bringing success to Sixways."
